An MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) is a school-wide, data-driven system of supports for emotional needs. It integrates academic and behavioural support by offering increasing levels of intervention based on student needs, from whole-class teaching strategies for all students to intensive, individualised support for a few. The goal is to proactively identify and address learning and behavioural gaps early, ensuring all students can succeed.
Every individual student at Bayfield is provided with the support and extension they need for their own learning. Programmes are designed to specifically target the skills and concepts requiring support/extension.
Tier 1 - Every child receives Tier 1 whole-class teaching.
Tier 1 + Tier 2 - for children who require skill-based intervention/extension in small group sessions within their classroom programme.
Tier 1 +Tier 2+ Tier 3 - for children who require significant support in order to achieve accelerated learning. This support is provided through small-group or 1:1 sessions away from the classroom, on a rotating timetable so that the same Tier 1 session isn’t missed regularly.
All of our MTSS is overseen by the two SENCOs, with teaching sessions taken by both teachers and our highly experienced Learning Assistant team, including regular progress monitoring and celebration of success.
ESOL children are also included in our MTSS programmes for language development and support with reading and writing in English.
