Basketball has a long tradition at Bayfield and is our largest sport. It is enjoyed with enthusiasm by players. Teams are assembled from Y 2-6.
The children's passion for basketball sees them practising voluntarily at school most days. Teams work together to carpool and organise coaching.
Harbour Basketball offers a large number of activities and programmes of excellent quality providing a pathway for every basketballer to realise his or her ambition'
Bayfield teams participate in the Harbour Primary School Basketball Competitions. In Semester 1 2025, Y2-4 mixed teams and Y5-6 Girls Only Teams will be played on Tuesday nights. Year 5-6 Mixed Teams will be played on Wednesday nights. Games are played at Eventfinda Stadium, or occasionally AUT or Massey University (Albany).
Trials are run before the season commences to allocate teams based on skill level for Years 4-6. Years 2-3 are mixed ability-based teams. There are usually around 7 children per team. We ensure all children have an opportunity to join a team. All games are 30 minutes in duration.
The draw and results can be found here
The basketball uniform is a Bayfield singlet and shorts. This is ordered from the office. The singlet is reversible and is personalised with player name and number.
All players must wear plain black or navy shorts. White or black plain socks and sports shoes.
Mouthguards are complusory
Teams are coached and managed by parents. Each team generally has one practice per week at school. We are also fortunate to have Donna Crampin who has coached basketball at Bayfield school for many years to assist teams without a coach for an additional fee.
