Preparing for School

“Stepping Stones 2 School” is a transition programme that helps the children develop strong links between Te Whariki (the ECE curriculum) and the New Zealand Curriculum, which guides the learning at Bayfield from New Entrants to Year 6.  Children attend up to 5 sessions on a Tuesday afternoon from 1.30 – 3pm.  We discourage parents from staying with their child for these sessions, to help build up resilience to being left at school. They get to know their peers, the teachers and their way around the school.

We also offer school visits on Thursday mornings (8:50-11am) in the two weeks prior to children starting school.  A parent or caregiver must stay for these visits.  It gives the parents an opportunity to see the morning routine in the classroom.

We hold a new entrant parent information meeting once a term.

The dates for all of these will be emailed to parents by the school's enrolment officer.
