Bayfield School recognises the unique position of Maori and the values in New Zealand society. The school acknowledges that it must strive for partnership as a commitment to The Treaty of Waitangi through building relationships through consultation with the Maori Community.

Te Reo and Tikanga Maori is made available for all children to participate in and Kapa Haka group instruction is available for middle and senior school children.

The progress of Maori children, particularly (but not only) in literacy and numeracy is monitored and information is made available to the Board of Trustees as part of the review process.
